This Outnumbered Mama
Hi! I’m Sophie and I’m the mama behind This Outnumbered Mama. I started blogging in November 2012 at Mommy Training Wheels when my firstborn was only 2 weeks old and I was a sleep-deprived and nervous first-time mom. I ran the blog for about four years with a varying degree of regularity before pretty much dropping it after my third child was born.
Writing has always been a major interest and I thoroughly enjoyed sharing my thoughts with those who were happy to read me. The exchanges through the comments from fellow bloggers and followers were always pleasant. Now, I’m ready to pick up again with this new blog and hope to have you along for the ride.
Through this blog, I plan on writing mostly about parenting, our lifestyle (including our journey to minimalism and being a zero-waste household), meal ideas, board games and my artistic interests.
I’m a thirty-something year old French Canadian (eh!) who is the proud mom of four wonderful kidlings. I’ve got an amazing husband with whom I’ve been sharing the past 11 years of my life with. When I’m not on maternity leave, I’m working as a special education teacher with high school aged students. I’m a self-described shy procrastinating perfectionist who’s got waaaay too many interests. I also tend to become pretty obsessed when I start something new. Finding balance has been an ongoing challenge in my life, but I’m up to the challenge!
My eldest, Charles, is 6 and has officially started kindergarten. He is an incredibly sweet, patient and intuitive child whose interests currently revolve around LEGOs, books and video games. I couldn’t have thought up a better big brother even if I had tried and his younger siblings look up to him. Speaking of which…
Don’t be fooled by her angelic appearance, Amélie, who is now 4, can be likened to Little Miss Bossy. She is one determined little girl! Her energy, self-confidence and boundless imagination only make her more endearing. Playing memory games, assembling puzzles and taking care of her babies (sometimes dolls, sometimes her younger brother) are what fill up her days right now.
Elliot, who is smack dab in the middle of his terrible twos, keeps me on my toes all day, every day. He is silly, energetic and is afraid of nothing. He’s been able to masterfully find his place within a family with four young children. Despite being, by my description, as gentle as a tractor, he is surprisingly empathetic and has been handling his job as big brother with apparent ease. Currently, Elliot is fascinated with trucks and pretending he is Link fighting off guardians and goblins.
My newest addition and last child is Adrien. Born at the end of July 2018 (1 week late and smack dab in the middle of a long heatwave I might add!), he is the calmest baby I’ve had out of the four. He rarely cries, is all smiles and is just generally zen. By the time he was 6 weeks old, he was sleeping through the night. He is also the only baby who I’ve not had to do sleep training with! Right now, his interests lie in watching what everyone does around him, listening to music and chewing on his fingers.
